ATTUKALAMMAN BHAGAVATHY temple, Trivendrum (Kerala) is one of the most ancient temples of Adi ParaShakti in South India. It is 2 KM from Sri Ananta Padmanabha Swamy temple of Trivendrum.
Mother Goddess appeared as a little girl to a devotee family (Karanava Family) and also directed them in dream to build a temple at the present location.
This place is considered to be the SABARIMALAI of women. Also, ATUKKAL PONGALA UTSAV has been recorded in the GUINNESS BOOK of WORLD RECORDS as the world's largest gathering of women, where lakhs of women devotees gather within 5 KM radius of the temple, cook
PONGAL (rice cooked in milk, jaggery and coconut) for Mother Goddess.
Mother Goddess is believed to be the divinized form of KANNAGI, a woman who - along with her husband - came to the city of Madhurai for a living, where her husband was mistakenly captured as a thief of queen's jewellery and was immediately sentenced to death by the king. KANNAGI, deeply shocked and infuriated by this, proved her husband's innocence and CURSED the city of Madhurai. All the city caught fire and it was at the edge of complete destruction.
The Goddess of Madhurai, MEENAKSHI AMMAN, appeared in front of KANNAGI and granted KANNAGI & her husband salvation.
KANNAGI, as an AMSA of Adi ParaShakti traveled from Madhurai to Kanyakumari to Kodungalloor. Goddess took a sojourn at ATTUKAL. Later, she got her temple built here by Karanava Family and stood here as ATTUKAL BHAGAVATHY, blessing her devotees from times immemorial.
