Shantadurga - is the abode of Goddess Durga in the beautiful Goa. It's one of the most famous and sacred pilgrimages of Goa.
As per mythology, once upon a time Lord Vishnu and Lord Siva had a difference of opinion due to which they were about to fight. Sages and DevaGana's prayed Mother Goddess Parvathi to mediate between them.
Mother Goddess took the form of SHANTADURGA and settled the fight between her brother (Lord
Vishnu) and her husband (Lord Siva).
Original temple of Goddess was at Quelshim, Goa. However, during to Portuguese invasions, the old temple has been completely destroyed. Later, a new temple complex has been constructed at Kavalem village, near Panaji.
Mother Goddess Shantadurga is KULDEVI of numerous families in Goa.
