PanchaBhoota Linga Kshetram's

All this universe (living beings and non-living beings) is made of five basic elements - FIRE, EARTH, WATER, AIR and SKY.

RUDRAM describes Lord Siva as the one who is filled completely in this universe and beyond it as well.

"Panchabhoota linga" are the abodes of Lord Siva - each of which represents the TATTVA of Lord Siva with respect to one basic element each.

ARUNACHALAM - Lord Arunachaleswara in Tiruvannamalai (Tamilnadu) is AGNI (FIRE) LINGA. Though Lord is seen as a LINGA to naked eye, the sanctum sanctorum as well as Arunachala hill emanate heat (JYOTHI SWAROOPAM) continuously. Mother Goddess is ApeethaKuchambal.

KANCHEEPURAM - Lord Ekamranathar in Kanchi (Tamilnadu) is EARTH LINGA. The LINGA is Earthen here. So, ABHISHEKAM is not done with water, but with only Jasmine oil. Mother Goddess is Kamakshi.

JAMBUKESWAR - Lord in Jambukeswar (Tamilnadu) is JALA LINGA. Water continuously emanates from LINGA. Mother Goddess is Akhilandeswari.

SRIKALAHASTI - Lord Sri Kalahasteeswar (AP) is VAYU LINGA. Though the sanctum sanctorum of Lord doesn't have any windows at all, the oil lamps lit in GARBHA GUDI show the presence of air there with continuous flickering. Not even priests are allowed to touch the LINGA
here. Mother Goddess is SriGnanaPrasunamba.

CHIDAMBARAM - Lord Nataraja in Chidambaram (Tamilnadu) is AAKASA (SKY) LINGA. Void space is worshiped as AAKASA LINGA here (which is called CHIDAMBARA RAHASYAM). Mother Goddess is SivagamaSundari.
